illustrator, art director, and creative coach

Based in: Czech Republic Czechia Working area: global
Status: at your service Languages: English, Czech

As a creative professional, I strongly believe in the difference at first sight. That’s why I help my clients to stand out by using the power of comics, original illustrations, and animated videos to express their business identity and explain their products or services in a highly engaging way.

I have been working in the creative industry since 2007, successfully completing and managing over 400 projects. And while I am highly proficient in digital illustration myself, as a creative director, I prefer to team up with other outstanding professionals under the roof of my artBLOCK creative studio. Together, we can take on bigger assignments and offer a larger variety of styles and creative outputs, including animations, explainer videos and interactive presentations.

  • Marketing illustrations and animated videos — I design visual marketing concepts to be applied both online and in print; illustrated websites, logos and brands including the whole communication style, visual marketing strategy, explainer videos, etc.
  • Illustration and comics — I create original drawings and illustrations that fit neatly into your visual style, comics and storyboards for commercial purposes, as well as standalone pieces of digital art, infographics, award-winning book covers, etc.
  • Consulting and production — I can consult or manage your creative projects from A to Z thanks to having a strong background in technologies, digital media, creative business management as well as startups as a co-founder of Nanits, a former Silicon Valley startup.
  • Coaching for creatives — Helping other creatives is an important part of my professional mission. If you are a creative looking to improve your business, you can turn to me for advice or even apply for long-term coaching and consulting support.

I am creative, but also professional, well-organized and reliable, always delivering work on time — which is essential because creative work is time-consuming, and junior creatives often struggle to keep up with their deadlines. Over the years, I have perfected not only my craft but also the underlying creative process to prevent common misunderstandings and fulfill clients’ expectations. As a business owner, I know what my customers expect, and I have mastered the technologies needed to produce, implement, and deliver top-notch creative work — worldwide. I’m a creative geek and working with the latest technology is my second nature.

I’m here to help you — to be different, daring, and more successful in all things visual.

Firsthand recommendations

Michael Petrus is an elite illustrator, who I would highly recommend to anyone. He can draw well without question, but there are plenty of other people who can too. He has created a number of illustrations for our high-traffic business blog and my articles in major media outlets, so I can name his other advantages as well: 1) He is reliable, which is rare with creative types. 2) He's fast as lightning, if necessary. 3) He embraces technology and is willing to explore or even develop new tools. 4) He's very active on social media, so he knows the common sizes, etc. 5) He doesn't have a single style, so he fits in with almost any creative project. 6) He's easy going and friendly; to work with him is a joy. 7) He also coaches other creative professionals and is pretty well-known and well-informed for his age. So there you have it, your seven reasons to love Michael and hook up with him for your next project — but only if you're fast enough to get into his packed schedule!

Michael participated in last year's redesign of Studenta magazine at all levels. He helped us with the advertisement for illustrators, took completely selection and hiring of the most suitable candidates, and then worked tirelessly with them all year, advising them, mentoring them, and helping to move their work a few levels higher. He worked from home, from the Czech Republic, from abroad, just from anywhere, and always reacted with lightning speed, in short. Nothing was impossible. His absolute professionalism, great willingness, and effort made my life as an editor-in-chief much easier. Especially in the most demanding days before the magazine deadline. His kind and sympathetic manner and his generally positive human attitude and "to get things done" approach also suited me very well. I recommend Michael with all my heart without hesitation.

Michael and his team turn our written ideas into vivid color comics for our educational magazine. They take classic English literature and create visually stunning, action-packed pages that are a perfect blend of fantasy and realism for our teenage audience. The team is creative, talented, and very easy to work with.
