I am a senior Linux administrator with experience in architecting, deploying and operating Linux systems in both on-premise and cloud environments. I also am experienced in AWS architecture design and deployment, as well as Python/Django development, among other areas.

I have a university degree in Computer science and a PhD. in Geoinformatics from Masaryk University in Brno, as well as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certificate.

Areas of expertise

  • Python and Django development — I have worked as a Python/Django developer in the image processing area. I've run large workloads in cloud computing environments and I am able to assist with the deployment of Python in the cloud.
  • Performance tuning — I like to find application and systems bottlenecks and help remove them.
  • DevOps tooling and approach — As a developer and operation guy in one, I have an understanding for the demands of both professions. I can suggest and help to fine-tune your workflows.
  • Cloud migration and architecting — I have records of successful migration of on-premise workloads to the AWS cloud environment.
  • Open-source tools training — I've run more than 150 training sessions during my last five years as a freelancer. Usually on the tools I'm using: Ansible, Icinga, Terraform, Packer and ELK stack.

Tools used

I always choose suitable tools and technologies for the project. I prefer to use solid, reliable tools with a proven field history. However, I also try to follow current developments and trends and, if it makes sense in the context of the project, suggest using state-of-the-art tools.

  • Development — I prefer to use Python and Django for development. I have extensive experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch databases.
  • Deployment and operation — I'm using Ansible, Terraform and Packer to prepare and deploy systems with the DevOps approach. I usually go for RedHat distributions (CentOS), but I'm not limited to them.
  • Automation of DevOps workflow — Ansible, Gitlab CI, Docker and Kubernetes are part of my daily routine.

Firsthand recommendations

Veroslav did a great job for TwoBeards (Figurepos.com). We needed a skilled DevOps specialist to kickstart a logging infrastructure on ELK stack (ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana) for us. Frankly, Veros exceeded our expectations and delivered the setup we asked him for, with an Ansible playbook on top of it. The playbook allows us to redeploy the solution without being seasoned in the field ourselves. Veros also analyzed our setup and made a few performance tweaks to save infrastructure resources and cut the costs of the whole solution. I am happy to continue working with Veroslav, reaching out to him with any challenges we might have in the future.

Jakub Straka TwoBeards

Veros is a real computer magician. I can't imagine the variety of tools he's able to work with, but what he know the best is how to glue them all together. Great person to work with, I've learned a lot from him.
